2009 Texas State & District 8 Tournament

The Texas Tournament will be held June 12^th & 13^th (Friday & Saturday)

The Texas State and District 8 Open Tournament will be held June 12th and 13th, beginning at 10:00 am Friday and 8:00 am Saturday.  The tournament will take place at the meeting room of the Super 8 Motel, 910 N. Central Expressway (on Highway 75), McKinney, TX  Phone # 972-548-8880.  Same place as last 2 years.  The room rate is $59.00   Call Faye Harvell @ 972-548-0049 for any questions. 

We would love to see about 30 or more players show up so plan on coming to Texas.

Motel Manager requested that you book your room by June 1st, as June is their busiest month.

The Tournament will begin with a short business meeting and registration at 10:00 a.m., and play will begin shortly afterward.  Seven Rounds will be played, with 3 rounds on Friday and 4 on Saturday. 

The entrance fee will be $20.00.  ACF membership is required, which may be paid upon entry for non-members.  The standard annual membership fee of $25.00 will be forward to ACF.

• 14 players participated plus several wives attended, with 6 States represented,  including four State Champions: Ed King - Texas, Roy Little - Oklahoma, Albert Tucker - Louisiana, and Larry Pollard - Alabama.
• We played two Divisions: Class A and Class B.
• Congratulations to Ed King and Wayne Gober as State Champions.
• Tournament was a 3-Move 7 Rounds of Round Robin which allowed a bye for each round, scored by game play.
• Total Cash prize was $325 divided $190 for Masters and $135 to Class B.
• Ed King wins the Texas Championship Title and the District 8 Championship.  This makes his third championship title in a row.
• The highest finishing State resident in District 8 is declared that years State Checker Champion.
• We congratulate newcomer Lester Binnick  for getting back into tournament checkers, he has played before but new to this tournament.
• Those that attended and played, experienced Texas style hospitality and fellowship... plenty of beef bar-b-que, beans, home-make pies, watermelon, cold drinks/water, etc. 
• A Big Thank You to Faye who sponsored a wonderful tournament and provided us with delicious baking & cooking through out the tourney.
• Big Thank You goes to Hugh & Judy Hawkins of  Howe, TX  who furnished the BBQ, buns, beans, etc.
